The Art Therapy/Art Pedagogy

In our understanding, art therapy, art pedagogy (Art Therapy/Fine Arts course) and theatre pedagogy (Art Therapy/Performing Arts course) cover a broad spectrum of very different competences, of which artistic professionalism and reflection skills are just as important as social, pedagogic and therapeutic qualifications. Additionally, practitioners should also demonstrate the ability to apply their knowledge in a responsible manner.
Our education and training concept adheres to these basic requirements. Focus is placed on artistic practice and aesthetic experience and complement this with a scientific treatment of therapy and pedagogy related questions. Work placement periods during the studies act to reinforce these two aspects .
Anthroposophical concepts play an important basis for the scientific and practice related subjects. We are of the opinion that studies building on this point of departure are appropriate, not so much from an ideological point of view, but more for honing individual skills, for assessing different methodological approaches and for integrating their results.
Consequently, we place great emphasis on designing the course in such a manner as to allow critical and creative participation. It is not our intention to simply pass knowledge on, but rather to examine its background. We are not so much interested in a particular Weltanschauung, instead we focus on personal experience. Of course, this also applies to the manner in which the students develop their own artistic and scientific positions.

Fine Arts

In the Fine Arts course, we pass on practical and theoretical principles to artistically-talented persons, in order for them to develop their own artistic means of expression. Project-oriented work and regular exhibitions prepare the students for their professional careers as fine artists. Throughout their entire studies they can take advantage of all modules offered by the Fachhochschule Ottersberg, as we are highly interested in promoting dialogue between the fields of applied and fine arts.
