FROM ART TO THERAPY TO ART TO THERAPY TO ART TO THERAPY TO ART

You are invited to an international symposium „by students for students“ of the art therapies (including art-, music- and drama- therapy) in September 2006, at the Fachhochschule Ottersberg in Germany (University of Applied Siences in Ottersberg for art therapy, fine arts and drama pedagogies).

Inspired by the ECArTE Conference (European Consortium of Arts Therapy Education) 2005 on Crete, the students of Ottersberg, are planning an international art therapy symposium for students. About 300 representatives from over 30 countries and different art therapy diciplines, came together at the ECArTE conference to take part in lectures and workshops. The common objective was to establish recognition and interdisciplinary links between the arts therapies in Europe. Beeing a member of the ECArTE perhaps even your arttherapy school was represented at the conference.
Three students from Ottersberg had the chance to organize a student discussion forum, initiating the „student voice“ at the ECArTE.  We were involved in lively discussions with students from  all over the world: Sweden, Finland, England, Greece, Germany, the United States and the Netherlands exchanging visions and realities of art therapy  students.
The matters discussed included: differences in art therapies approaches, job prospects, frictions between identifying as both therapist and artists, and the relation between theory and practise.

To cut a long story short: a lively exchange has inspired a want for more. And thus the idea of an international art therapies symposium „for students by students“ came to life!
What we invite you for, is to come together and discuss, try out, encourage and inspire one another, laugh, celebrate, have fun while exchanging artistic and therapeutic skills. So, let's meet and experience, feel, discuss and comprehend the highly esteemed social effects of the arts!

Anything should be possible during the symposium: Performance, visions, improvisation, play, discussion forums, workshops, projects, work experience reports... or simply just joining in one of these.
Our vision is to establish an international network that will develop even after the summer camp.
The symposium will be hosted by the Fachhochschule Ottersberg. Ottersberg is a small village between Hamburg and Bremen, surrounded by small rivers and fields which allow plenty of space for outdoor workshops also with and within  nature.
