Art for the people and with the people
The Fachhochschule Ottersberg, established in 1967 as a "Independent Fine Arts Study Centre", received state recognition in 1984, and is today one of the some 70 non-state higher education institutes in Germany.
Fachhochschule institutions incorporate a greater practical focus within the academic, scientific or artistic studies than is offered by the traditional university sector. They are generally also referred to as "University of Applied Sciences". For further information please also see at
http://www.daad.de. Looked at in an international context the Fachhochschule Ottersberg is comparable to institutions such as Art College, College of Fine Arts and Art Therapy or similar.
On average, some 500 students study at the Fachhochschule Ottersberg. This offers the distinct advantage that the institution is not only easily manageable, but is also able to exploit its autonomy to provide both a dedicated and unmistakable contribution to higher education. The Fachhochschule Ottersberg is mainly financed from tuition fees, but is supported by a non-profit limited company whose shareholders are mainly involved in practice-oriented organisations.
